About the Item

This special Diptych includes two original large ink drawings on Italian Fabriao paper, created by Shizico at the height of summer when her collection of lilies take centre stage in the garden. Renowned for her expressive drawing and its distinctive visual language, Shizico captures the raw essence of her artistic vision in these ink works. The pictorial language in Drawing Time series pays homage to Japanese Woodblock prints too. Shizico plants lilies which bloom in the gap between spring flowers and fall dahlias, to brighten up the garden for the gap weeks, to her, lilies symbolising passion and the bridge of the completion in the circle of nature/season. Through this ink Drawing Time series, she documents and preserves the fleeting beauty of the seasons and the sweet memories it holds, froze in time on paper. Shizico Yi paints most of her paintings and drawings in situ in all seasons, painting en plein air in her garden or on locations. She began gardening in 2015 to create a healing space for her elderly, ailing dog. After her Labrador passed away, this memorial garden became a wellspring of inspiration for her art—a place of solace and healing safe-space where grief and creativity intertwine. About the Artist Dr. Shizico Yi, the UK artist working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories . With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
