Adam Fowler
Untitled (3 Layers)

2012

About

Adam Fowler's Untitled (3 Layers) is primarily white, black and grey. After determining the scale, composition and architecture of each piece, American artist Adam Fowler starts by putting pencil to paper, creating gestural drawings in graphite. The drawings are then released with an X-acto knife so that all unmarked spaces are meditatively and meticulously removed by hand. The resulting sheets are then carefully stacked to complete each piece, evoking aspects of collage and sculpture in the stacking of the sheets and the 3-dimensional quality of the finished piece.
