About the artist:
Edward Glafke was born in Portland, Oregon and later moved with his family to San Francisco, California. He attended high school in San Francisco, then enlisted in the Coast Guard for the duration of WW2. He later lived in San Rafael and worked as a commercial artist. As his reputation as a fine artist grew, he eventually settled in Carmel where he established a solid reputation as an impressionist painter and teacher whose students included the noted trompe l’oeil artist, Brent Overby. Glafke worked in both watercolor and oil and his subjects included landscapes, seascapes and still life. He exhibited with success from the 1970's to the 1990's and was, for many years, represented by George Goff's Cottage Gallery on the corner of 6th and Mission in downtown Carmel.
