About the Item
Wonderful mid century figurative nude charcoal line drawing of a girl walking away by Moni (Mariellen) Ehlers (American, 1926-2007). Charcoal on paper, c.1950s. Signed “Moni” in the lower right corner. Gallery tag on verso with artist name, and title "Girl Walking Away". Presented in a simple giltwood frame around a silk mat with glass. Image size: 20” H x 18” W.
Moni (Mariellen) Ehlers was born in Mason City, Iowa in 1926, Moni studied art and music at Cornell College in Iowa for 2 years and at the Vogue School of Art in Chicago. She also studied with Paul Scott, a student of Hans Hofmann the abstract expressionist painter. At the Museum School in Boston, she studied lithography. She also worked as a portrait photography colorist.
Moni’s paintings have been exhibited in Gallery 7 on Newbury St. in Boston and the Phillips Brickman Gallery in Brookline. She also exhibited her work at the University of California at Berkeley. Her last exhibit was at the Brookline Senior Center in 2006. Her works are in private collections.
