About the Item
Paul Gattuso attended the Art Students League and worked primarily in New York City. There is an old address with a Bronx, Grand Concourse address.
Gattuso was a skilled painter and draughtsman. That kind of drawing confidence is needed in making monotypes where the artist is working in reverse and sometimes quickly as well.
This Italian Street Scene leads us into old, unspoiled village and in another time.
The paper here is tan and there is a pencil signature at the lower left. The dimensions are for the entire sheet.
This work is a probably a second pull from a monotype plate (we were able to compare it to a darker, 'inkier' version). Monotypes are of course unique, but a second pull will share the composition and colors of the first impression.
