The dramatic yet modern drawing on strong cotton Arches paper is a depiction of a notorious photograph taken by Mathew Brady of Nimrod Burke, an African American solider who was born into a slavery and went on to fight in the American Civil War as First Sergeant of the 36th Ohio Infantry. The work is signed in the lower right corner. It is installed with two dark red powder coated aluminum bars so one can suspend the work from a wall without having it framed behind glass. There is a traction strip to grip the paper along the inside of each aluminum bar. About the work: Linda Newman Boughton’s life-sized ballpoint pen drawings of notorious Civil War soldiers...
