About the Item

Created by Carole Doyle Peel (American, 1934-2016) circa 1985 and accompanied by first edition volume, 'Carole Doyle Peel: The Delight of Drawing', 2016. Mat dimensions: 22.25 x 34 x .38 inches. From her earliest years, Carole Peel was inspired by the old masters and frequently visited museums in Paris, London and New York to study and copy their works. Peel received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Utah (1956) and subsequently studied under Erle Loran and Robert Hartman at the University of California at Berkeley where she earned her Master of Arts and was the recipient of the Anne Bremer Award. A noted educator, Peel taught drawing at both Berkeley and the California College of the Arts. She exhibited widely and with success, including at Scripps College, San Jose State University, the Los Angeles Institute of Contemporary Arts, the Richmond Art Center and the Berkeley Art Center (1987 award winner). Peel’s work can be found in the permanent collections of museums including the Luther W. Brady Art Gallery at George Washington University and at the Berkeley Art Museum.
