About the Item
Thomas Henriot was born in 1980 in Besançon and lives between Marseille and Havana, Cuba.
Graduated from the Institut National Supérieur d’Expression Plastique in Besançon in 2003 with the congratulations of the jury.
He made ink drawing from China and brush on paper his favorite area, having deepened his knowledge at the Academy of Fine Arts of Xi’an in China in 2005.
It is the cosmic origin of the Far Eastern trait that gives his work its protean and constantly transfor- ming aspect.
Like the travelling writers, he has continued to develop a practice of performative drawing, working for several hours in a row on the ground, outdoors, in the public space, from New York to Calcutta, from Beirut to Rio de Janeiro, between the Middle East and Japan, North Africa and West Africa. He reformulates the outline of a fluctuating drawing according to political, societal, plastic and literary issues. Many of his exhibitions have been noticed around the world, as have his participation in inter- national fairs such as Drawing Now Artfair, Art Paris Artfair, Kutlog New York, St’art in Strasbourg, Art Fair London and Contemporary Istanbul.
In 2020, the Musée des Franciscaines de Deauville hosts in its permanent collection a triptych of the artist, resulting from his collaboration with Tina Bloch.
In 2021, the feature documentary BOCA CIEGA by director Itziar Leemans shows a portrait of the artist. It is screened at the Créteil Women’s Film Festival, and offered in competition in many interna- tional festivals.
His work has been presented at numerous solo and collective exhibitions around the world. His work is part of many prestigious private collections in India, Europe, USA, Brazil.
