This is an oversized astonishing architectural study for the restoration of a church in a Paris suburb. These sketches of the St Pierre church in Avon, Seine et Marne Departement, nearby Paris are for the restoration of the front porch. The drawing is made with watercolor, ink, and sepia pencil. On the lower center bottom, you have the drawing of the porch itself, on the left side a close-up of the underside of the framework, and on the right side the same framework views from above. The top left corner shows a quoted plan of the porch. There is a handwritten dedication on the lower right-hand corner that reads: To my old friend and pal. A warm memory of school. Sign Maurice Lambert. The study is ornate with a classic wood frame with glass protection. Good condition, with minor wear on the frame throughout. Please check the last three pictures for the views of the original building. Measurements: With frame: 40.94 in wide (104 cm) x 27.56 in high (70 cm). He was promised a place at the University in Milan by the Holy Roman Emperor, however, his formal education was upended before it even began by the invasion of Italy and Austria by Napoleon. Aglio joined the war effort and fought in a series of major battles near Venice before becoming seriously ill. At the age of about 23 he was released from duty, and traveled to Rome to focus on his health, and landscape painting. In Rome, Aglio studied with the renowned artist Campovecchio. At the invitation of well known British architect William Wilkins (designer of the National Gallery and University College London), Aglio relocated to London in 1803. He made London his permanent home, and married Letitia Clarke in 1805. He enjoyed a lucrative career painting frescoes in the interiors of high society townhouses, country manors, and major London concert halls and theaters.
