Mary Reilly
Within the Forest, gray photorealist graphite landscape drawing, 2018

2018

About the Item

In her newest landscape drawing, Within the Forest, Mary Reilly explores the full tonal depth of graphite. She finds all of the soft subtleties of gray in her movement from the momental tree trunk in the foreground, to the teaming layers of foliage in the background. Reilly uses a reductive technique, erasing away at her shading and lines to achieve this gradated effect. New York native Mary Reilly studied art at SUNY Purchase, the School of Visual Arts, the Art Students League of New York, and the National Academy School of Fine Arts. After a career as a graphic designer, she began pursuing her career as an artist full time and studied with artists Frederick Brosen and Sharon Sprung. She currently lives and works in Manhattan. Provenance: Artist to GarveySimon, New York, NY Bibliography: 2018 The Woven Tale Press VOL VI #5. p, 34, 2018.

  • 'Outdoor Street Scene', by Sonya Terpening, Watercolor on Paper
    By Sonya Terpening
    Located in Oklahoma City, OK
Sonya Terpening's framed watercolor on paper painting titled 'Outdoor Street Scene' captures a calm scene outside of a cafe. The dining table depicted in the work becomes the focal point when observing this piece, as it is placed in the foreground and captures the eye with a vivid blue table cloth; on the table are four glasses placed upside-down and what appears to be a sugar and salt shaker. Terpening's realistic style is exemplified in her depiction of the table; the blue cloth's folds and wrinkles, and the heavy use of shadows and lighting on the table cloth, chairs, and glasses all contribute to the realistic qualities of the piece. The table is positioned on a red brick sidewalk/street directly outside of the cafe, which is also brick but painted white. The cafe door...
