View of Ariccia, 1828 Pencil Drawing, French Romantic School

1828

About the Item

French Romantic School beginning of the 19th Century View of Ariccia, 1828 located and dated, "Ariccia 1828" on the lower right Pencil on paper 23 x 35.5 cm In good condition but two small repaired tears are visble in the upper left part (see photographs please) In a modern frame : 40 x 53 cm This beautiful drawing is not signed, but the date and place are excellent clues to situate it in the circle of three of the best Romantic painters, who were in this very region of Lazio at that time. The best known is the young Camille Corot (1796-1875) who made his first trip to Italy from 1825 to 1828, painting and drawing alongside Théodore Caruelle d'Aligny (1798-1871) and Edouard Bertin (1797-1871), but we could also mention Léon Fleury (1804-1858), as the fourth of these three musketeers The style and framing initially suggest Caruelle d'Aligny, especially in the foliage, but the most likely name to attribute our drawing to is Edouard Bertin. In any case our drawing is to be given to a hand belonging to this circle, it is very typical of their landscapes drawn in the open air.
