About the Item
New Nostalgias is a new work on paper by Turkish artist Yasemin Kackar Demirel. This architectural inspired artwork is watercolor, block print and graphite on paper. It is 16x20 framed to 19x24.5.
Yasemin Kackar Demirel is an emerging Turkish artist. She was born in Istanbul, received her MFA in DeKalb (IL), and currently lives in New York. Her work is a fragmented and reconstructed journey through the places she has lived and traveled, both real and imagined. She has a strong use of color and mediums incorporating acrylic, ink, pen, graphite, pastels, watercolors and spraypaint into her artwork.
According to Yasemin, her latest Gaps series: “Movement in architecture and in nature are compelling to me. I view a world within continuous social and political conflicts and struggles, and reflecting upon this movement is freeing to me. This is a controlled freedom. I explore the ways in which emotional and physical balance, safety and stability can be maintained. I base this cyclical quest on replanning and abstracting the existing structure and geometry of sites and vistas.
In this watercolor and block print series on paper titled ‘Gaps’, I gather and combine tracings of various places and restructure them with color and planes. These depictions are inspired by geographic boundaries, the state of transits, vastness of landscapes, aerial views, and interior and exterior architectual elements such as ceiling views, archways, windows of museums, restaurants, galleries, coffee shops, concert halls and theaters.
Along the process, I repurpose my paper palettes by cutting out organic/gestural shapes from them which may resemble lands and border lines suggesting territorial maps. I then transfer these contoured shapes as block prints. Within a dynamic system of shifts, I am drawn to the idea of capturing the infiniteness of constructions in land and in urban life with a grounded sense of freedom, controlled yet uninhibited.”
Yasemin has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in the US and Turkey. Her work is also in the Ipek-Ahmet Merey Foundation in Istanbul, Turkey.

- Richard Whadcock, Early Light, Bright Art, Contemporary Drawings, Realist ArtBy Richard WhadcockLocated in Deddington, GBRichard Whadcock Early Light Original Landscape Drawing Oil on Paper Sheet Size: 51 cm x61 cm x 0 cm Framed Size: 70 cm x82 cm x 3.7 cm Sold Framed Slightly Off white with museum quality non-reflective glass and archival mount Free Shipping Please note that in situ images are purely an indication of how a piece may look. Early Light is an original oil on paper by Richard Whadcock. This was an early morning on the way to the study. A sea mist was being slowly lifted by the rising sun and revealing the surroundings through subtly changing diffused light.. Richard Whadcock is a contemporary artist specialising in atmospheric landscape paintings. His contemporary landscape paintings explore the South Downs and East Sussex coast. Trying to capture its ever changing dramatic atmosphere from silent stillness to squally days. The South Downs are only a starting point as the paintings themselves eventually take over and follow their own path creating their unique surface landscape. Richard studied at Fine Art at Bristol Polytechnic from 1986-89 where the work crossed between painting and printmaking. He then went onto study for his MA at the Royal College of Art specialising in printmaking. He utilised etching but mainly lithography due to its closeness to painting. Along side these he would also paint with all these disciplines feeding each other and expanding ideas. After leaving college Richard was awarded a residency at the Lowick House Print Workshop in Cumbria and more recently, 2014, he was also awarded a two week residency at Cill Rialaig artists village in Kerry, Ireland. His studio has been part of the Phoenix Arts studios in Brighton for the last 15yrs. It is one of the largest artist lead organisations remaining. The work crosses between small works on paper to large scale oils on canvas up to 200cm x 200cm...Category
