About the Item
Frank Owen Dobson C.B.E. R.A. , was an English artist and sculptor. Dobson was born in London and his father was a commercial artist, bird and flower designs for greeting card companies, this influenced Dobson in the earlier part of his career. Dobson began as a painter but increasingly turned to sculpture and built a reputation for outstanding sculpture in the realist style and firstly through direct carving and moving onto modelling which lead to bronze production but in small numbers. This portrait is from the earlier part of his career and represents his early realistic style and still under the influence of the Victorians, he later moved onto cubist mannerisms and included partial colors into his drawings.
