Odilon Roche est né le 3 octobre 1868 à Châteauneuf-sur-Loire.
Mort le 27 août 1947 à Six-Fours (Var). XIXe - XXe siècles.
Peintre aquarelliste, peintre de lavis, dessinateur de nus.
Il est probable que son admiration exclusive pour Rodin datât de là et qu'il eut tout loisir de se pénétrer de la technique assez simple des lavis et aquarelles, en même temps que du style. Ses propres oeuvres en furent totalement marquées. En 1931, il alla se fixer à Six-Fours, au-dessus de Sanary, où il peignit l'essentiel de son oeuvre, consacré aux scènes de bords de mer, qu'il allait saisir sur nature de plage en plage, ne passant pas inaperçu, vieillard truculent à barbe blanche, vêtu à l'orientale d'un sari et d'un turban.
L'oeuvre, agréable plus que majeur, de ce peu ordinaire personnage ne fut découvert qu'en 1971, et a donné lieu à une opération d'exhumation de grande envergure. Il faut convenir qu'à lui seul le personnage la méritait, d'autant que lui-même jamais songé à en tirer gloire ni profit.
