Louis Macouillard was born in San Francisco, CA on Sept. 8, 1913 of French descent and first graduated from Polytechnic High School and the CCAC (1934) before further study at the Art Students League in NYC. Returning to San Francisco, he became art director for the Velvetone Poster Company and maintained a studio on Hotaling Place. He began painting scenes of San Francisco in watercolor during the 1930's and also worked in mosaics and as a muralist. He exhibited with success including at the Oakland Art Gallery (later the Oakland Museum) 1934, and at the San Francisco Art Association (1935). During WWII, he served in the Navy in the South Pacific and produced many artworks of that area which were featured in a six-page spread and cover of the October 1943 issue of Life magazine. Henry "Hank" Volle first attended the University of Illinois and subsequently studied in Europe, including at the Klinger Institute, Vienna. Upon returning to the United States, Volle began to study with the water-colorists of the California Bay area. Essentially a plein-air painter, Hank Volle painted along the California coast where he exhibited with success. He was also a member of the Santa Clara Watercolor Society and the Society of Western Artists.

Cafe Tabac is located in the foreground on the corner with the striped red awning. Circa 1975. Signed lower right. In very good original condition. Framed in one inch wide mahogany frame. Overall measurements 20 by 23.5 inches.
Urbain Huchet was born in Rennes on April 28, 1930.
After studying law and owning a textile factory for four years, he decided in 1960 to devote himself entirely to painting.
Mr. Huchet spent his first three years as an artist in Pont-Aven, following in the footsteps of Gauguin and Emile Bernard, both of whom influenced him a great deal. He does many paintings of the landscape and the typical people this region. His love of the Brittany coast and the sea can always be seen in his work.
After moving to Paris in 1963, his love of adventure and travel led him to spend time painting and writing in Europe, the Middle East, and South America, where he produced many paintings of the Indian markets and the great scenery. He made 14 trips of more than 4 months each, from Mexico to Brazil via Peru, Central America and the Caribbean Islands. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, this California painter and printmaker moved to Los Angeles in 1933. Jerry Opper graduated from Hollywood High School and worked as a set painter in the movie industry while studying art at the Chouinard Institute. During the war, he was stationed in Colorado where he enrolled in the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. After the war, he returned to Los Angeles where he worked again in the film industry. In 1947, he moved to San Francisco where he studied full-time at the California School of Fine Arts and was awarded his diploma in June of 1950.
Opper exhibited widely and with success including at the Drawing and Print Exhibition of the San Francisco Art Association in 1950 and again in 1951 when he was awarded the Artists' Council Prize.
