Early 20th Century Pencil drawing and watercolour/goauche of a game of Pelote signed Paul Hermann and attributed to René Georges Hermann-Paul. The drawing carries a title and signature bottom centre. It is presented under glass in a fine wood and gilt frame. A strong and characterful representation of the game of Pelote, popular in the Basque region of Europe. The artist has captured the movement of the ball as the player in red is about to play his shot and other team members look on. The drawing carries the title 'Euskal Jai Parisien' which was a famous Pelota court in Pamplona, made famous by a poster of 1898 (see photo). 18th Century French Sanguine drawing, possibly a preparatory sketch for the painting by Nattier after the painting by Rubens. Presented in shaped 'marie-louise' mount in plain gold wood frame with collection label. The subject is the Queen Marie de' Medici seated on a grand throne, the baby is in the arms of Health while Justice looks over him. Fecundity brings a cornucopia of fruit with the heads of the other children the Queen will bear. The Sun rides his chariot across the sky to indicate that Louis XIII was born in the morning and the calm figure of France surveys the whole scene.
