About the Item

Shima Rabiee's "Figure #31" is an original, handmade charcoal drawing that depicts an expressive monochromatic portrait of a woman's face with straight dark hair and gestural shapes that obscure her exact expression. About the Artist: Shima Rabiee is a Fine Artist, Architect, and Designer. She earned her Master's degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to that, she earned a Bachelor degree in Architecture. Art and Design are her main passion. She has practiced as a designer at collaborative design and planning firms in New York City, San Francisco, Boston, and Houston. She has also been succeeding as a professional artist and abstract-realism painter. Her main interest is observing the form of objects, their composition and relation with the surrounding environment. During years of her professional practice, she became more acquainted with the meaning of form and its logic in sustainability, aesthetics and function. She believes that form has fundamental and structural values that are most inspiring in the creative process, and that, the value of form lies not only in its beauty, but rather in its contribution to the language and dynamic of her artwork. Parallel to teaching at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and leading the students with innovative and critical discussions in design studios, she has published a book titled "DESIGN VISUALIZATION: Exploring Expressive Visualization through Art Fundamentals". Her book has been well received by professionals, and featured by ASLA in the Landscape Architecture Magazine. Her focus is engaging art as a fundamental element in the design and representation process and making a conclusive discussion through it, that is functional, inspiring and necessary in art and design studios
