Dina Brodsky
Tree #55, contemporary realist ballpoint pen and gouache nature still life

2019

About the Item

In her ballpoint pen and gouache still-life, "Tree #55," Dina Brodsky uses a sketch-like approach to capture the texture of the tree bark, and the delicacy of its branches. Brodsky creates age and evokes an almost primordial chronology through the negative space in her hashmarks, emphasizing the artifact of the tree and the design of its grain. Dina Brodsky is a contemporary realist miniaturist, painter and curator. She was educated at University of Massachusetts, Amherst and the New York Academy of Art, where she received her MFA. She lives and works in New York City. She has taught privately, and in several institutions including the Castle Hill Center for the Arts, the Long Island Academy of Fine Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Artwork dimensions: 12 x 9 in. Framed dimensions: 16 x 13.5 in.

  • Blushing Tones, Original Painting
    Located in San Francisco, CA

    Artist Comments
Artist Jinny Tomozy paints a realistic still life of a fresh bouquet. She paints the soft, toned hues of the petals that emerge from the grey background. The colors subtly intensify towards the left side of the painting, and soften towards the right, creating a gradual shift in color saturation levels. This transition creates an underlying movement from one side to the other.

    About the Artist
Artist Jinny Tomozy reveals the most tender aspects of nature through the sculptural forms of flowers. Her strikingly realistic floral watercolors connect us to the familiar emotions we experience in viewing the spectacular or mundane circumstances of this place we call home. "I am captivated by light touching a surface, the nuances of a shadow, interplays of color, and of other complex facets of our visual world," shares Jinny. After twenty-two years as a teacher of foundations in art education and placing her creative aspirations on hold, she now pursues art full-time and spends more of her days painting and creating. Jinny captures tangible feelings of space and time in her studio at Reno Art Works. In this non-profit gallery, a community of eleven artists works in an emerging art...

  • Ranunculus Shindig, Original Painting
    Located in San Francisco, CA

    Artist Comments
Artist Jinny Tomozy exhibits a realistic portrait of a Ranunculus bouquet. "Ranunculus are similar to roses but have more delicate petals that are tissue-thin and in greater numbers," describes Jinny. Layers and layers of petals that transition from cool greens in the center to warm pinks and yellows make them a delightful subject matter. Jinny creates the piece from several different references and arranges it into one bouquet.
