"ROAD TO PARADISE", egg tempera, trees, fruit, blossoms, geometry, flora pattern

2018

About the Item

ROAD TO PARADISE is an egg tempera on Ampersand panel by Fleur Thesmar. The artwork measures 24x18x1" and is unvarnished (as many artists prefer). Against a grid of gentle reds, yellows and cream stands a cluster of six luscious fruit trees. The contrast between the mathematic grid and the wild bountiful trees bearing fruit suggests a joy in all of nature. From geometric patterns and repeating systems inherent in our universe, to the lovely chaos of wild growth and fertility. From Fleur Thesmar – "Part of a new body of work centered on the geometric forms of trees and the way to represent them. Many trees are nowadays represented by painters with the use of photography and are a projection of their real shapes, which do not show their essence. Other contemporary painters such as Piet Mondrian or David Hockney have, in my opinion, represented perfectly their true shape. In ancient cultures, trees have been considered an essential part of Paradise, or even a way to find it. This work is also inspired by renaissance paintings." Having moved her family from France to America, artist Fleur Thesmar closely observed the changes in her world – from the seemingly obvious such as surrounding landscapes, the light of day and weather, the flowers, trees and shorelines – to the smaller less obvious shifts, such as how one behaves in a new world, in a new home, how one cherishes certain belongings and certain memories. Her artistic practice is borne out of that close observation and shift in perspective, and has led to a number of successful gallery shows in the U.S. and internationally. Fleur Thesmar has shown at Beacon Gallery in Boston MA, 440 Gallery, Brooklyn NY, Old West Museum, Cheyenne WY, Belmont Art Gallery, Belmont MA, and Salon Ile-de-France 2020, Bourg-La-Reine, France. Her work is on permanent display at the Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston, MA. Fleur Thesmar graduated from Ecole Polytechnique, Palaiseau, France. She received her MSc Telecommunications Telecom in Paris, France, and MSc Signal Processing & Communications, Imperial College, London, England. Fleur Thesmar Currently lives in Boston, MA, where she received teachings from the MFA Boston studio.

MY OUT-OF-REACH GARDEN is a new watercolor on Fabriano paper by Fleur Thesmar. The artwork measures 22x30", and is a structured composition in tones of blue, violet, rose, gold and green. Bordering on abstraction and representation, there appear to be sheets of paper, a desk, and yet surrounded by flowers, patterns and textiles it becomes a larger scene, a collection of memories. From Fleur Thesmar – "When you cannot return to a place you love, your memory invents the place for you. Apparent forms are suddenly unrecognizable, a reconstructed memory of a far-away place. Wrapped in patterns, grids and cloth, lights and stars shine as if from a mirror. Throughout are organic, fantastic shapes of flowers." By Fleur Thesmar
    Located in Toronto, Ontario
PLENTY is a new watercolor on Fabriano paper by Fleur Thesmar. The artwork measures 22x30". Note the gentle complexity of the composition, the suggestion of dollops of ice cream and fruit, or piles of colorful clothes, or a fanciful landscape. The scale grows large and small, far away and right in your lap! From Fleur Thesmar – "My memory invents places and shapes, finding new games of mirrors thanks to mathematical models and theories. Shapes resembling bowls of fruit, balloons, landscapes and so on, actually fulfill a dream of mine to free the imagination and let the viewer invent as well." Having moved her family from France to America, artist Fleur Thesmar closely observed the changes in her world – from the seemingly obvious such as surrounding landscapes, the light of day and weather, the flowers, trees and shorelines – to the smaller less obvious shifts, such as how one behaves in a new world, in a new home, how one cherishes certain belongings and certain memories.
