Marcoussis was a French-born Polish painter and engraver. His real name was Ludwik Kazimierz Władysław Markus, but once he transferred to Paris he changed his name under Apollinaire' suggestion, adopting the French pseudonym of "Marcoussis" inspired by a suburb of the city.
His first paintings were essentially impressionist, but since 1910 he embraced the Cubist trend alongside Picasso, Braque and Juan Gris. His works were exhibited on various occasions both in Europe and the USA, and in the Section d'Or in 1912.
