Annie Mandelkern was born and raised in New York City and has devoted her
educational and professional life to art. She attended New York’s highly selective
Fiorello H. Laguardia High School of Music, Art and Performing Arts and then earned a BFA at Syracuse University. Annie has worked in many facets of art and design and began her interior design career working for several prestigious firms in NYC. She now heads her own interior design firm.
Some of Mandelkern’s paintings and works on paper are inextricably bound to her work as an interior designer. She is often commissioned by her clients and for these projects, she imagines what she would like to see in a particular space as a designer, and then creates it as a fine artist. In her non-commissioned work, Mandelkern works on several paintings at once drawing inspiration from quotidian encounters with people, objects and experiences. In much of her recent work she employs mixed media including acrylic, charcoal, ink and some collage elements.
Annie Mandelkern lives with her husband and three children in Port Washington, New York.
