Carole Myers
"The Moon was Full that Night" Modern Abstract Night Landscape Painting

2010

About the Item

Blue, purple, black, and white modern abstract mixed media landscape painting by Texas artist Carole Myers. The work features expressive strokes of color loosely forming a night landscape scene. The piece is signed in the front lower right corner. Currently hung in a metal silver frame with a complementary white matting. Dimensions Without Frame: H 28 in. x W 34 in. Artist Statement “My work as a painter has been inspired for many years by the beauty of landscapes. I express both the vast panoramic views and intimate bits of nature with a spiritual response, rather than a literal interpretation. Various symbols are often included to add to the mystery of my paintings that may be inspired by petroglyphs, pictographs or personal calligraphy, leaving the interpretation to the viewers. As an experimental artist working on canvas or paper, I use a variety of water media, (fluid acrylic, Interference acrylics, transparent watercolors, watercolor crayons, etc.) along with collage and found objects. Painting in response to the sounds of nature or music (Native American flute, classical guitar, jazz or flamenco) enhances the creative process.” Artist Biography: Carole began her journey as an artist in Oklahoma over 70 years ago. She became known for her unique style and experimental watercolor techniques. Her style is abstract, using watercolor, mixed-media collage and acrylic on paper as well as acrylic and collage on canvas. Through her life she lived in El Paso, St. Louis and finally, San Antonio. Southwestern landscapes and Mexico were major sources of inspiration for her work and she travelled extensively, sketchbook or camera always close at hand. Carole Myers, a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society was also active in the San Antonio Watercolor Group and Texas Watercolor Society (Purple Sage Brush Member). She has won more than 300 awards including the High Winds Medal Award in the 122nd Annual Exhibition of AWS. Her work is included in The Best of Watercolor, Creative Watercolor, Step by Step, The Creative Artist, Abstracts in Watercolor, Texas Watercolor Society: Fifty Years of Excellence, Watercolor Magic, and several others. She served a juror and critic for exhibitions and taught numerous art workshops in Rockport, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Kerrville and throughout the U.S. as well as in Mexico and France. “I express both the vast panoramic views and intimate bits of nature with a spiritual response, rather than a literal interpretation.”

  • Untitled
    By Michael Goldberg
    Located in Austin, TX
Oil, pastel, and paper collage on canvas. Signed and dated verso. 52.75 x 47.75 in. 54 x 49 in. (framed) Gilded floater frame. Provenance Compass Rose, Chicago Born Sylvan Irwin Goldberg in 1924 and raised in the Bronx, Michael Goldberg was an important figure in American Abstract Expressionism, who began taking art classes at the Art Students League in 1938. A gifted student, Goldberg finished high school at the age of 14 and enrolled in City College. He soon found New York’s jazz scene to be a more compelling environment, and he began skipping classes in favor of the Harlem jazz clubs near campus. Goldberg’s love of jazz would become a lifelong passion and a key component to his approach to composition in his paintings. From 1940 to 1942, like many of the leading artists of the New York School, Goldberg studied with Hans Hofmann. In 1943, he put his pursuit of painting on hold and enlisted in the U.S. Army. Serving in North Africa, Burma, and India, Goldberg received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star before being discharged in 1946. After his service, he traveled and worked in Venezuela before returning to the United States, settling back in New York and resuming studies with Hofmann and at the Art Students League. Living downtown and frequenting the Cedar Bar, Goldberg befriended many of the artists of the New York School. In 1951, his work was included in the groundbreaking Ninth Street Show, co-organized by Leo Castelli, Conrad Marca-Relli, and the Eighth Street Club, and featuring the work of - among others - Hofmann, Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, and Franz Kline. In 1953, the Tibor de Nagy...
