About

"Misty River" is a painterly, gold-infused view of a river framed by forested banks. A pigment transfer with mixed media on aluminum, the result is a landscape evocative of the Hudson River painters of the 1800s. Krause' work similarly conjures the sublime beauty of the natural world, though here, the reflective qualities of the aluminum support and the metallic pigments give an enchanting luminosity. A recurring concern in her work is global climate change, and her layered landscapes memorialize the ephemeral beauty of the natural world.

Krause is a painter, collage artist and printmaker who incorporates digital mixed media into her art. Her work is exhibited regularly in galleries and museums and featured in numerous current periodicals and books.

Krause is Professor Emeritus at Massachusetts College of Art where she founded the Computer Arts Center and a member of Digital Atelier®, an artists collaborative. She is a frequent speaker at conferences and symposia and a consultant for manufacturers and distributors of products which may be used by fine artists.

With a pigment transfer, the artist prints an image onto a specially prepared transfer film which allows the print to be moved, or transferred to another surface. The coating on the transfer is designed to encapsulate the waterbed pigment ink and then release it to a damp or treated surface by capillary action. When the film is placed face down, the pull of the damp surface s stronger than the coating holding the ink to the film and when the film is removed, the image remains on the surface. Irregularities in the transfer are akin to traditional mono print processes.
