About the Item
Artist Comments
Part of artist Gregory Brown's signature series of abstract paintings created around vintage, "pre-death" Gianni Versace ties. Gregory starts a painting by selecting a tie from his continually changing collection. He says "it comes down to if I'm in a conservative mood or a bright mood! And what people don't know is that Gianni created an IMMENSE collection with varying color schemes from 1990 to 1997." This painting features a Versace tie from Gianni's 1995 collection. This is a special piece because there is a small Medusa in the center of the tie. The Medusa was Gianni's signature icon but didn't appear on many of his ties. The gray, black and cream combination are a departure from his common themes of red and gold. The Versace label has been removed from the tie and is attached to the back of the canvas.
About the Artist
Artist Gregory Brown melds Verscace ties with dynamic geometric patterns. Gregory emphasizes the art in fashion by breathing a new life in late Gianni Versace's work. With a collection of vintage Versace ties, Gregory expands the creative vision on canvas by spotlighting each Versace piece. "The glamour in fashion ended with Gianni's death in 1997, I wanted to find a way to keep his collection alive," states Gregory. In his free time, Gregory enjoys traveling across Europe, reading historical stories, and being an avid runner. His dynamic artwork has been displayed in American Airlines Admirals Clubs in both Miami and Chicago, the World Trade Center in Dallas, and shown at exhibits in Jerusalem and Paris.

- Behind the Scenes, Abstract PaintingBy M. ClarkLocated in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
Liquid gold metal drawn over diagonal black and white stripes. Thick, painterly texture provides numerous angles to reflect light. The edges of the piece are finished in gold. Created by carefully manipulating metallic foil with heat and varying pressure over the course of many weeks. This is a highly specialized and unique technique developed by M. to achieve her goals of bending light and drawing out distinctive elements in the foil. The work is very luminous and will display individual characteristics in different lighting situations.About the Artist
M. Clark sculpts metallic foil with heat and pressure to create rich surfaces that are highly reactive to shifts in light. She strives to continually push the bounds of her gold foil medium, including working directly with a manufacturer to develop foil in specific sizes and colors that were not previously available. As a person with dyslexia, her artwork has roots in the way she processes symbols. "The multidimensional shape and arc of letters are more powerful than stringed characters forming words," she explains. M. lives in New York and works in a studio on the 35th floor with big windows overlooking the East River. She describes it as an inspiring and calming space, and is fastidious about keeping the place organized. Her work has been exhibited nationally, including a large scale installation in the Smithsonian, and is collected internationally.Words that describe this painting: gold, metallic, luminous, pattern, geometric, modern, Jackson Pollock, abstract, non-representational, modern , mixed media artwork, yellow
