This piece is made by layering Korean mulberry paper on a wooden panel with homemade flour glue. Then I apply a glue base. Next, I draw my sketch, and trace it on the paper. Then I paint three or four layers of a background color using pigments and glue base. Lastly, I paint the subject in fine detail, which takes most of time. The painting is on a cradled wood panel with finished edges. I placed two objects that can not be seen together in real life to present the imbalances and irregularities in our world. Hate and love, good and evil, joy and sorrow. However, in my painting, the imbalance is hidden. Instead tranquility, peace, and happiness standout. I want to show the happiness and peace we continually pursue and long for, even in the middle of this imperfect world.
About the Artist
Heejin has been been drawing for as long as she can remember. She grew up with a serious illness and spent much of her childhood in the hospital. Drawing served as an outlet for her, bringing her peace and distraction. Heejin says there was no doubt as she grew up that she wanted to be an artist. She studied oriental painting extensively as a college student in South Korea and then went on to study art therapy in graduate school.

Artist Lee Smith offers an anthropomorphic cat woman that blurs the lines between human, animal, reality, and fantasy. The piece evokes a positive, uplifting, and deeply contemplative mood. The stunning portrait of the lady with flowing blue hair merges seamlessly with the body of a sitting cat. "Golden cat...Category21st Century and Contemporary Surrealist Mixed Media

There are so many things in this world that do not match yet coexist. Hate and love, good and evil, joy and sorrow. Despite this, we constantly pursue perfect peace, love, and happiness. My work places two objects that cannot be together in one space, projecting the imbalances and irregularities of this world, and at the same time, depicting harmony, peace and quiet. This piece was made by layering Korean mulberry paper on a wooden panel and painting with watercolor.About the Artist
