Kris Haas
Worn & Torn #32, Abstract Painting

2021

About the Item

Artist Comments
Artist Kris Haas builds her compositions intuitively as she creates modern distressed abstracts. In this piece, Kris forms different shades of translucent blocks that fit cohesively to each other. Wide strokes of black peeking through windows with varying contrasts. Part of Kris' derivative and ongoing Disjointed Reality series. Her work is rooted in a primal understanding that at any form, shape, or object, whether worn or torn or even due to life's circumstances, beauty still comes through. "You will find bits of wear & tear on the painting itself."

About the Artist
Artist Kris Haas creates expressive mixed-media abstracts on paper where she relies on intuition when combining blocks of color with free-form shapes. “I think it is important to give the color space to breathe in order to be understood and seen,” says Kris. After her accident in February of 2004 which left her with a permanent brain injury disability, Kris found herself relying on her visual language. Her process starts with selecting the right image, one that will stand out and call to her, images and gestures that create different feelings and a different atmospheric approach. From there, she decides where the color blocks need to go. Notably, one of Kris’ works was in the permanent set of the hit series Mad Men, featured in one of the offices in the last two seasons. Kris is constantly creating and needs her studio clean and organized. “The tabletop does get messy though and it gets a daily organizational cleaning, otherwise I wouldn't be able to work!”

  • The Traveler, Abstract Painting
    By Patrick O'Boyle
    Located in San Francisco, CA

    Artist Comments
"I've always been fascinated by what people see in my paintings," says artist Patrick O'Boyle. He displays an implication of a man traveling the deep void of brilliant hues. Part of his series of colorful abstracts with hints of recognizable subject matter that leaves the viewer room to explore. He combines techniques of collage and painting to unfold a dreamy and entertaining narrative.

    About the Artist
Patrick O'Boyle primarily paints in a studio, rarely using reference material other than his own thoughts and dreams. He always paints in a series of five - at the end of the fifth painting he revisits and reworks all of them until he feels they're complete. Using extra-long handles on his brushes, Patrick paints at a distance from the canvas so he can see the works evolve as a whole from the one color he starts with to the vibrant array at the end.
