Katherine Warinner
Blue Skies 4 by Katherine Warinner Mixed Media on Board Painting with Leaves

2022

About the Item

Katherine’s delicate and evocative monotypes portray nature’s flora in all its glory, from the most organic trees and branches to airily etched florals. They are the result of a perfect (and complicated!) marriage of technical expertise and Katherine’s innate ability to create these light-filled, contemplative pieces. "These works are one of a kind. All are hybrids of different techniques, tied together by being created on an etching press, so they are called monotypes. The imagery is created from drawings I make or from organic material I find and scan into the computer. They are then etched and cut into 1/8” birch on an Epilog laser cutter. The resulting shapes are inked individually and printed in unique compositions. Ink washes are used in the background. They are a contemporary variation on woodcut printing, utilizing new technology. Newer work is created using cyanotype process, then overprinted on the etching press."

  • Sublime 709 - Green Colorful Original Photographic Collage Mixed Media Artwork
    By Tae Ho Kang
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
Inspired by the artists of the Modern Art era, including Post-Impressionist Paul Cezanne, Kang visualizes the modern day search for identity in an age where information and images permeate every aspect of contemporary life. His architectural urban scenes are flattened, with everything pressed against the surface of the artwork. At times, multiple views of the same houses are visible, trees and bushes are vaguely alluded to, and the color palette finds a hectic balance. Just as a city operates in a balance of chaos and the sublime, so do the artworks of Kang. The Sublime is an euphoria that affects the deep recesses of one’s consciousness. As is this experience of the sublime, his work is largely abstract. This large colorful horizontal artwork is 38 inches high by 48 inches wide. The sides of this textured, original mixed-media artwork are finished as a continuation of the front and it does not require framing. It is hand-signed and dated by the artist on the back. It is wired and ready to hang. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable U.S. and worldwide shipping is available. Provenance: Artspace Warehouse. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Tae Ho Kang was born in Seoul, Korea in 1945. He studied at the College of Arts of Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea. He later moved to California to study Fine Art at California State University, where he graduated in 1980. Since then, his artworks have focused on the never-ending quest for home and belonging in a dense urban landscape. About his mixed media artworks, he remarks: “One day, when I was traveling, I was impressed by the beautiful scenery of the city under the sky, with many straight lines, curved lines, and harmonies of different colors, which seemed to be a magnificent orchestral performance. The beauty of this urban landscape gave me a deep impression and great change began to take place in my work. I wanted to be a molecule in this huge space. I have to find a house of my heart to be molecule. Where is the house I live in? What is my identity? This question has begun to arise. I am on a long journey to find my own house.” His mixed media collage artworks have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions as well as international art fairs throughout the US and in Korea. Kang's work has also been featured in Television and Film productions, including Criminal Minds, NCIS Los Angeles, Unforgettable, The Mindy Project, The Great Indoors, and American Housewife. His artworks have been exhibited and acquired by private collectors around the world. • On My Mind - Minimalist Scenic Landscape Painting
    By Mike Gough
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
Gough’s interest in the elusive quality of memory has always been an invariable interest in his art practice. Rooted in memories of his upbringing in Newfoundland, Gough’s paintings are autobiographical but carry universal narratives. In the absence of detail there is an opportunity for one’s own memories to develop. An expansive solitude and sense of isolation is met with a universal feeling of what it means to belong. This unique 12 inch square mixed media painting on panel explores our relationship with memory and the natural world. This piece is signed by the artist on the back and is wired and ready to hang. The sides are painted white and the artwork does not require framing. Convenient local Los Angeles area shipping. Affordable Continental U.S. and international shipping also available. This artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery. At its core, his practice explores how our relationship with the natural world connects and defines us. Working in mixed media, he endeavors to create familiar meditative spaces that exhibit a personal journey, but simultaneously invite the viewer to insert themselves in the narrative. These paintings partially stem from a fear of memory loss as a result of experiences with Alzheimer’s in his family. Not only does the painting process exercise Gough’s memory, but the paintings themselves act as records of his experience becoming a blend of reality and idealism. They are not painted from photographs; the places are not precisely rendered and the experiences are not accurately told, but they are Gough’s authentic recollection of them. The intent of his work is to create a patchwork map of memories as a guide back to the authenticity of human feeling.
