About the Item

Martin Coiffier is a multidisciplinary visual artist who lives and works in Brussels. Through his works, he transforms nature and landscapes into poetic visions. For each of his series, he creates unique processes that bring together different techniques. This prompts viewers to question the true nature of the work. His work creates reflections on the relationship between reality and the imaginary; the physical and the psychological; the abstract and the figurative; and finally the relationship one maintains with a work of art. Martin Coiffier's representations of forests are explosions of energy. He photographs the sets himself, which he then reassembles with the computer and paints with acrylic paint. This creates different layers. Throughout the process, he constantly questions where the boundary lies between photography and painting, and how these two media, through their visual aspect, determine our way of interpreting a work. He draws his inspiration from romanticism, 19th century engravings, cinema, and contemporary digital creations. 'Dream' belongs to a series called 'Under the Rainbow'. The title 'Under the Rainbow' refers to the song 'Above the Rainbow' sung by Judy Garland in "The Wizard of Oz". Even though it is partially photography, every piece is completely unique. Coiffier does not work with editions. Acrylic and pigment print on Hahnemühle Fine art paper on Dibond. Wooden frame. Certificate of authenticity provided.

''Autumn Announces Itself'', Contemporary Dutch Oil Painting of a Landscape
By Frank Dekkers
Located in Utrecht, NL
Frank Dekkers (1961) is a landscape painter par excellence. Full of dedication and diligence he always works on location outdoors, defying the elements. The weather plays an important role in his work: an emerging early winter, heavy summer rain, lightning storms and flaming sunsets form endless sources of inspiration. Like 19th century painters as Monet or Renoir he takes his easel, panel and oil paint outside where Frank finds the peace and quiet to create his paintings. Being outside, experiencing the landscape, the passing of the day, is what makes him paint. Dekkers masters many techniques, such as etching, woodcutting, ink drawing and painting in oil. Whatever the technique he uses, his work is always recognizable by his unique signature. He can accurately depict the essence of the landscape, using minimal resources. By reducing his subjects to lines, surfaces, colors and light, he shows us his interpretation of the landscape without it becoming unrecognizable to those who haven’t been there. On the back of every panel Frank notes down the coordinates, the exact spot Frank painted the landscape. Type the coordinates in Google Maps...

Forest Abstractions - Chorus Line, Original Painting
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
Artist John Jaster displays a forest with tall aspens rendered in a playfully abstract style. Bold shades of yellow, orange and red suggest a warm autumn day in the woods. In his process, John creates stunning color combinations by utilizing multiple layers of heavy body acrylics and brushwork. He results with captivating scenery with intense contrasting hues and high-spirited energy.

About the Artist
Artist John Jaster paints in a style he describes as realistic impressions, capturing colorful views of his adventures across the Americas. "People always ask me how I get such deep brilliant colors," says John. "The answer is layers. Since acrylic paint dries mostly transparent, it requires multiple layers of paint to build up to a specific color. With the right lighting that depth of layering is like sunshine glistening through clear water." In college, John felt a pull towards computer science and pursued a career in software architecture. Although the two paths may seem unrelated, John says his work in software strongly influences his artwork in terms of distilling complex systems without losing the magic and wonder. Today, John works from a large home studio with a fireplace, lots of natural light, and jazz playing in the background. Since 2010, John’s paintings have been displayed in over 90 juried exhibitions and published in leading art magazines and books.
