About

Nobu Fukui's ECSTATIC IDIOCY is primarily taupe, white, pink, black, grey with red, yellow and green dots.

Born in Japan, Nobu Fukui lives and works in New York. Inspired by the Action painters, Fukui creates currents of color and dimension on surfaces that incorporate cut paper, painted beads and paint. From a distance, Fukui's collage paintings read as non-objective, yet reveal a suggested narrative through the inclusion of pop imagery upon closer inspection. The surfaces are prepared by wrapping his panels in newsprint, referencing the wealth of image and text that form our collective unconscious.
