Patricia A. Pearce
Modern Green, White & Black Abstract Geometric Kimono Collagraph, Masterplate #1

1980s

About the Item

Unique mixed media work created from a Master plate for collagraph printmaking, featuring a bold and modern geometric kimono shape in green, white, and black, by Patricia A. Pearce (American, b. 1948). Layers of the kimono peel back, like the pages of a book, achieved by Pearce with a minimalist approach to perspective that evokes the aesthetic of Op-Art. This piece is textured, as it was originally created for use in making collagraph prints. Unsigned, from a collection of the artist's works. Unframed. Included is the sleeve that it was stored in. Collotype: a process for making high-quality prints from a sheet of light-sensitive gelatin exposed photographically to the image without using a screen. Patricia Pearce is a California artist who attended San Francisco State and UC Irvine and adjunct Professor of Fine Art at the College of San Mateo. Her early work on paper explored images of garments using various printmaking techniques. Later, she began to work mainly in collagraph and monotype prints creating singular images of kimonos and ribbons in her subtle shifting, subdued pieces are constructed in a three-step process. Awards include Grade Prize, 3rd Biennial Exhibition of Prints, Wakayama Japan; Grant, Peninsula Community Foundation. Collections: Nieman Marcus, San Francisco; Wells Fargo, San Francisco Exhibitions: Montalvo, California Center for the Arts; Pacific Prints, Palo Alto.
