Bolaffio was an Italian artist who was instrumental in reintroducing collage and decoupage into the United States. Early years Rita was born Margherita Luzzatto in Trieste, Italy to Angelo Luzzatto and Olga Senigaglia. Her family moved to Vienna, where she passed World War I. She studied art under Josef Hoffmann at the Kunstgewerbeschule. She also studied violin under the famous violinist František Ondříček at the Neues Wiener Konservatorium. She did textile designs for the renowned Wiener Werkstaette. In 1919 she married Oscar Bolaffio, an architect and engineer, and cousin of painter Vittorio Bolaffio.[citation needed] They moved to Milan in 1928, where Rita became one of the first horsewomen in Italy, riding sidesaddle, and won the "Premio Ciglione della Malpensa" (the Ciglione della Malpensa Prize) in 1936.[citation needed] American career Machine for Writing Poetry, circa 1955 Arabesque, circa 1963 In 1939, the Fascist anti-Jewish policies forced the family to flee to America.[citation needed] She began a career as an artist, specializing in imaginative collages that were displayed in the windows of most major department stores in America, including Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Carson Pirie Scott, and many more, as well as many private commissions.[citation needed] She regularly contributed covers for such magazines as Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, Town & Country, Good Housekeeping, and Woman's Day.[citation needed] Boley Bolaffio was best known for her dramatic window displays in New York City.[4] Additionally, she had many awards and one-woman exhibitions at museums and galleries (e.g. J.L. Hudson Gallery, Detroit, Guild Hall Museum, East Hampton, N.Y. and the Columbia Museum of Art in South Carolina).[5] Her 1941 collection of decoupage works at the James Pendleton Gallery in New York City was favorably reviewed in The New York Times, and in 1950 that same newspaper described her as a "leading exponent" of decoupage.[6][7] Her work is included in European reference works on modern art.[citation needed] She received the Premio di Sorrento 1965 for her poem "Nell'afa".[citation needed]

"Loud Mouth" is a surrealist multi-media sculptural painting made with acrylic, paper, fabric, beads on a canvas and wood. The figures' mouth, made from wood, extends past the painting bringing the painting to life. The lashes on the figure are extended with thread which has been sewn into the canvas. INSPIRATION BEHIND THE WORK - "'Loud Mouth' was brought to life via a string of impulses similar to the ones that may lead to someone being pegged as a "loudmouth." A "loudmouth" is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as "a person who tends to talk too much in an offensive or tactless way." In my experience, however, "loudmouth" is usually used to describe someone who fits into only the first part of that definition (talks "too much"), and as a result — regardless of what they're saying — is perceived as too loud. Surely, of course, there are also those that fall into the offensive or tactless zone, but this painting isn't about them. This painting is about those who are so busy being their wonderful selves, they don't have the time or care to consider how others perceive them. It is a celebration of being genuine and sticking out past expected boundaries because you are confident in the worth of your spill-over." - Artist Megan Dune...

"Superbloom" is made with acrylic, oil pastel, paper, glitter, thread and clay on canvas and paper mache. This bright and vividly colored sculptural painting is a perfect example of the power of unrestrained creativity. INSPIRATION BEHIND THE WORK - What began as an experiment in creating rose petals slowly evolved into this deconstructed "Superbloom". At the center of these petals is a seemingly chaotic arrangement of color and texture. Yet, from slow observation, patterns and repetition emerge. What can be easily grouped into a "whole" is actually a balancing act of orchestrated parts - the same as every living organism we observe. There is a mystery to be savored in every act of living - as well as in viewing the traces of life left behind. "Superbloom" was made in love of the former, and leaves behind the latter. We'll never fully understand all the bits of a rose, or all the brushstrokes of a painting, but we're always welcome to bask in the sunshine that is loving without knowing.
