About the Item

This work by the internationally collected artist Robert Mars features Brigitte Bardot and is titled "For the Sake of the Song". The art measures 30 x24" it is a unique one of a kind mixed media work on wood panel. An impressive layered collage of paint, mixed media, vintage news clippings, nostalgic imagery and classic Americana coated in a glossy UV resin finish on a custom made wood panel. Robert Mars’ artwork has been exhibited worldwide including museum collections in Munich, Tokyo, Amsterdam, London, Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Laguna Beach, Paris, Aspen and Naples. His artwork was selected for the Absolut Vodka campaign in addition to his work being acquired by Philip Morris/Altria for their corporate headquarters. Coca Cola purchased several existing works and ordered commissions for a world tour celebrating the 100 year anniversary of their trademark bottle shape, in which his artwork was spotlighted. The work of Robert Mars explores Pop icons from Marilyn Monroe to Coca-Cola. To create his work, he layers images and adds text from his vast archive of vintage newspapers and magazines, he then adds his trademark patterns to his creation using paint and spray paint. When completed he finishes the work with Epoxy Resin. He begins the creative process by preparing his surface with multiple layers of vintage magazine or newspapers from the 50's and 60's in order to define the edges and delineate the background planes of color. He then alternates layers of paint and vintage paper ephemera, sanding away portions of the layers as he works, revealing the desired portions of under painting with the overall intention to provide the viewer with a muted window into America’s past. The final touch is a clear glossy epoxy resin coating..
