About the Item
Keun Young Park depicts the body in a state of transformation. Her works on paper show floating figures, faces, draped arms and cupped hands, which appear to be disintegrating and reforming at once. The artist begins her process with original photographs keyed to various evocative hues. The images are shredded by hand into thousands of tiny pieces that are then reassembled. Between the pasted pieces are thin, white, vein-like lines that reveal the texture of the paper's edge.
Park's practice has a relationship to the precision of Pointillism, the uniformity of Benday dots and the repetition of digital pixilation but her works retain a tactile, hand-made quality through the irregularly shaped elements from which they are formed.
"I intend to reflect upon the a-static character of existence in the flow of time…I attempt to capture the tremor of unstable presence," writes Park. Each work vibrates with a quiet energy, conjuring up thoughts of both the beginning of life and its end. This sense of disembodiment is balanced with a fullness of form and physicality that is derived from the artist's earlier practice as a sculptor.
------------
"In my work, I reflect upon the ecstatic character of existence in the flow of time as well as the opposite sides of nature – negative and positive, construction and destruction, presence and absence, and life and death.
I believe that everything is constantly changing, either being generated or destroyed. Presence is just a state of being and the reality of an object has ambiguity in this shifting.
In my recent work, the micro-collage or paper mosaic, I capture the tremor of unstable presence. I take pictures of parts of the body or face, change the color and saturation of those images by Photoshop and print them out on paper. Then, I tear the pictures and paste them back together piece-by-piece.
Through this process of breaking down photo images and recomposing them, figures have thousands of tiny particles and textures that make the images look blurry and tremulous."

- Hotel du Lion d'Or - Digital Contemporary Color Photograph Parisian Flying HouseBy Laurent ChéhèreLocated in New York, NYLaurent Chéhere, a French photographer born in 1972 in Paris, makes images of flying houses and other dwellings that are informed by his wanderings in the hidden neighborhoods of Paris and by his love of cinematic history. Most of his photographs carry references of forgotten stories, Parisian neighborhood and architecture and pay a tribute to classic movies, such as "The Red balloon" or “Who are you Polly Magoo” to name just a few. The charming manipulated images, part digital, part analog depict a dreamlike world where his reconstructed houses appear to float in the sky. They are poetic and whimsical and meant for the viewer to make his very own story. Item description: Laurent Chehere "Hotel du Lion...Category

Rafael Salazar (Cuban- American photographer) was born in Cuba in 1945 and has been a South Florida resident since 1965. He has photographed the development of the City of Miami as well as Miami’s budding art scene over the years. He is primarily known for his panoramic photographs and photo assemblage montages which have both a documentary quality to them but are full of enchantment and depth. Of great importance to him is the preservation on film of art works, especially those of a transitory nature, this has led him to photograph two of Christo and Jeanne-Claude projects; Miami’s Surrounded Islands and the Pont Neuf in Paris. He has also documented the works of Fernando García, Ed Ruscha, and Philip Johnson. His work draws inspiration from his love of the cosmos, spirituality, architecture, Eastern philosophy, and nature. He has been exhibiting his fine art both nationally and internationally for many years. Salazar’s images have earned him a reputation as an innovative and sensitive artist. He has close ties with the Miami-Dade Public Library System and photographed much of the development of Main Library as well as the early exhibitions and events held there. He photographed the library’s Artmobile, painted by New York Realist artist Lowell Nesbitt, an art gallery on wheels decorated with zebra patterns and native flowers that was in service from 1976 until 1992. He also documented the Grand Opening Celebration of the Metro-Dade Cultural Center held in 1986. Since its 1970 start, the Permanent Art Collection has been recognized nationally as a fearless reflection of Miami’s diversity, and an invaluable chronicle of its artistic and social history. Their collection includes Elizabeth Catlett, Purvis Young and Emilio Sanchez. "Fact and Fiction: The State of Florida Photography...Category
