About the Item
Artist Comments
This painting is part of Wes Sumrall's current mixed media series, Aerials, influenced by the overshots of Earth from the International Space Station. The metal leaf used has a tendency to tarnish slightly after a few years. Wes explains that with the crisis of climate change, these paintings portray the ephemeral nature of earth, and paradoxically embody its beauty through the inevitable decay.
About the Artist
Wes Sumrall began painting at a young age and enjoys observing nature. As he explains, his work involves studying the nature of light by subduing the nuanced color variations instilled. He has been greatly influenced by Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman and Claude Monet. When he's not painting, he enjoys backpacking, going to music venues, working out and spending time with friends.

The inspiration for each and every painting is brought about through music ; every piece has a ;Voice; listed on the back which indicates the music involved in the process. When you receive the painting, read that information, purchase or obtain the music from a library etc. , listen to the music ; see what it inspires in yourself. Abstract is always open to the interpretations of the viewer. My work is acrylic with palette knife, there is a clear low sheen varnish on the front as well as the edges. Each piece is wired ; ready to install. This piece is composed of acrylic ; paint sticks on masonite board that is in a clear pine cradle with cross corner braces. This piece was painted to Clint Eastwood's - After Hours @ Carnegie Hall musical piece. Paint sticks are used for applying acrylic to the board which often results in multiple color sticks...Category21st Century and Contemporary Abstract Mixed Media

- Cypher #15By Tim CraigheadLocated in New Orleans, LAFramed with an archival mat and plexiglass with a dark maple wood frame. Framed dimensions are approximately 22 x 18 inches. Craighead describes his work as inhabiting a space between objective and nonobjective painting. The combination of these two worlds, serve as a matrix for what are essentially autobiographical paintings. He is interested in the symbolic potential of the objective world and the possibilities abstraction presents in suggesting the unknown. For a year in the mid-1990’s, circumstances forced Craighead out of his studio and he was left to work at a kitchen table on...Category
