Artist Comments
A sprawling expressionist scene of a rustic dwelling in a forgotten valley. Artist Robert Hofherr paints with the dynamic use of bright colors and bold brushstrokes. "The subject matter is secondary to the opportunity to put color on canvas with intensity and abandon," states Robert. "The color palette here is restricted with the elimination of true red and bright green and teal. It results in a more unique 'tonal world' for the piece."
About the Artist
Robert Hofherr avoids depicting a landscape exactly as he sees it or as the viewer might expect. Instead, he enjoys reimagining landscapes and painting his pieces indoors at a fairly rapid pace. The works of French Fauve artists Maurice de Vlaminck and André Derain initially got him interested in painting, and also influenced his decision to not use grey in his works. During his free time he enjoys spending time with his kids, walking his dogs and taking road trips to out-of-way places in the mid-Atlantic region. He currently lives in Maryland.

The daughter of two artists, Miranda Gamel grew up with artistic aspirations. “When I was young, I couldn’t imagine that I would be anything else… it only seemed natural,” she says. She further developed her skills with her teachers (and fellow UGallery artists) John and Elli Milan. Miranda’s paintings exist on the edge of the surreal and the fantastical while remaining grounded in human emotion.
