Loss is an inevitable part of life when we have deep relationships, whether with people, animals or causes. While I sense the grief of the woman in this piece, I am also connected to the light of the blue that surrounds her and the heat of the base that supports her. Strong feelings can be balanced with hope and a celebration for the capacity to feel. I carry my dad's wisdom that we cannot choose which feelings to embrace. We feel or we don't feel, and the absence of feeling is a loss itself.

- Rebuff, Original PaintingBy Sharon SiebenLocated in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
Artist Sharon Sieben paints a nude woman in the style of primitivism. The bold gestural strokes evoke raw and expressive emotions. "Something said or done does not meet with her approval," says Sharon. She uses thick layers of graphite and acrylic pigments to shape her vulnerable state.About the Artist
Sharon Sieben prefers working in a loose, fluid technique and finds inspiration in the most unexpected things. Her parents bought her a set of oil paints when she was ten years old and it sparked her love of art. She especially admires the work of Impressionist artists such as Paul Cezanne because of how they broke tradition. When she's not making art, she enjoys reading and playing classical guitar...Category21st Century and Contemporary Outsider Art Nude Paintings
