About the Item

'Hildegard Marie-Ossek Kruppa' is a stunning contemporary ink painting on cardboard by Croatian emerging artist - Alfred Freddy Krupa. It is a minimalist landscape, an entry gate of Auschwitz camp with a traditional Japanese calligraphy design, intense movements, and highly emotional style and black and white color aesthetic. The artist is recognized for his uniquely conceptual approach and connection between Eastern (Asian) art traditions and Western expressionism. It is shipped directly from the artist's current studio in Croatia along with a Certificate of Authenticity, signed and dated by the artist. New Ink Art movement has gained international recognition with both Christie's and Sotheby’s organizing Contemporary Ink painting auctions in 2013 and 2014. The artworks by prominent names such as Lui Shou-Kwan and Liu Kuo-Sung have reached prices ranging from several hundred thousand to several million dollars. For a long time, New Ink Art movement was limited to the East, with very little knowledge about it outside of the Asian continent. However, over time the movement has found its way to the West, where it has influenced a new generation of artists. Alfred Freddy Krupa, the creator of New Ink Art Manifesto, is considered the pivotal figure in Western New Ink Art movement. Inspired by the ink practice of Japan, where he used to live, Krupa uses dense black ink to create tense, raw and direct art that reflects his minimalist approach. 'At the time she was living under surname Jarczyk in the City of Gleiwitz (Gliwice) where she was arrested on the 30st February 1942 in the status of 'asocial' (and that can be any charge at all from refusing a sex with the German officer to being poor, politically in opposition or having some physical disability... we don't know what happened). On the 21st of March, she was transported into the Ravensbruck KC for females, that was above Berlin. Her inmate number was 9772. She stayed imprisoned over there until 1st of February 1944 when she was transported into Auschwitz - Birkenau KC and in the same morning at 8:20 she was burned alive in the furnace of the KC Crematorium (we have death certificate with false reason stated - heart failure - but some inmates working over there told my grandfathers, elder brother Engelbert that horrible fact after the war). Mother of Hildegard Marie died young in 1921 at the age of 25, just like her. Her grandmother Therese Kruppa died of sorrow thinking that all the grandchildren (she raised them) were killed in the war.'
