About the Item

"The Earth Is on Fire, But the Green Garden Will Forever Be My Home" is an original painting and mixed media work by Kelly Kozma. In this piece, Kozma has used an original digital print of her own embroidery work as a canvas for the painting. This piece measures 38in x 38in and ships in the simple, wood floater frame shown in the first image. Artist Statement // My work is extremely process driven. There are elements based on probability and chance, as well as ones that incorporate exceedingly planned out details. Often I use dice as a way of determining which colors to use, while other times I will draw a thousand tiny bricks by hand. Combining these methods creates an organic rhythm that could not exist if I were making all of the choices solely on my own accord. About the "Mixing The B Sides" Series // A series based on the backsides of other works. After completing the piece, "Six More Weeks", I realized there was so much stitching detail on the back, and I was losing it the minute it was framed. In an effort to utilize this imagery, I began having the backsides digitally scanned and printed, which I then draw, paint and embroider back into. The breakdown is... the back of one piece becomes the base for the next original piece. Then the back of that piece will become the front of the next piece and so on. The end result has a whisper down the lane effect, in that you are able to see remnants of the piece that came before it, while it still maintains the integrity of a completely unique & original work of art. Biography // Mixed media & fiber artist Kelly Kozma, grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and received her BFA from Moore College of Art & Design. She is represented by Paradigm Gallery + Studio in Philadelphia. Kozma has exhibited in Philadelphia as well as New York, Delaware, and Miami, Florida for Art Basel. Her current work combines drawing, painting and hand embroidery with elements of chance and probability to create vivid, pattern driven pieces.
