About

By the 1970s as Abstract Expressionism played out, Zacharias, who was De Kooning's first gallery assistant, began to be influenced by both p op and minimalism. Pop artists like Warhol borrowed the idea and imagery of mass production to create works with multiple images. Minimalists like Daniel Judd left the images behind and concentrated on the idea of repetition. Art was to be impersonal. Zacharias incorporated these ideas in his work of the time but incorporated them into abstractions. Although they look like repetitions, each iteration is unique, thereby paying homage to his roots as an abstract expressionist. There are some of his finest works.
