Béatrice Bescond
"Mythorology", Chrome Yellow, Parma Violet, Cobalt Blue, Yellow Ochre Painting

2002

About the Item

This large painting evokes, without describing, the myth of the Minotaur. That cruel monster, part-man, part-bull, whose presence is suggested here. Pictorially questioning its relevance, the Minotaur partially inherits The symbolism of the bull, embodying our instinctive and unconscious impulses. Forces of control and reason confront these impulses in a struggle, A battle between life impulses and others more devastating, embodied In a dynamic, sometimes chaotic composition that takes the viewer On a labyrinthine journey, with forms exploding into particles and others coming together. They build a world-earth, as two bulls emerge and face each other In a nod to Picasso, one an attentive witness, the other quick and powerful. The black graphic tensions are answered by a colorful unity, between Chrome yellow and Parma violet, cobalt blue and yellow ochre. From a distance, the elements merge into a single colorful energy As a diffuse light emerges, enveloping the entire scene in its radiance. Titled "Mythorology", this original paiting is framed in a white wooden frame. It measures 154 cm x 122 cm x 4 cm with the frame. Béatrice Bescond is a French artist. Mostly influenced by Pavel Filonov, Henri Michaux and François Rouan, and inspired by Gaston Bachelard, Carl Gustav Jung and mythology, she likes to question founding myths and archetypal figures in a joint process of figuration and disfiguration.

Fomin is a fairy-tale artist, a romance teller, who is choosing never ending life stories for a viewer.
