Coming To (Abstract Painting) Oil and acrylic on canvas - Unframed Note that this artwork will be sent rolled in a tube. This method is especially safe for large works. Rolled works can be easily stretched (for canvas works, i.e. placed onto wooden stretcher bars) and/or framed by a local framer upon arrival. This artwork is part of a new body of work created between 2015 and 2016. Those paintings are divided in half vertically and use several different kinds of abstract techniques which are part of Gordon's inheritance as an artist. Gordon found it interesting to have what could appear to be two paintings in a painting. There is clearly a stronger use of gesture in those works that in those of the previous 10 years. For Gordon, gesture (and as drawing) carries all kinds of meaning and he wanted to use more of it in these new paintings. Dana Gordon is an American abstract painter whose work for many years has explored playful shapes, and vivid colors to display an exuberant abstraction. As a multidisciplinary artist, Gordon also writes about art, has designed sets for opera and dance, and, in the period 1968-78, made avant-garde films as well as paintings. He lives and works in New York City.
