Untitled (B2), 2015

2015

About the Item

This work is one of two similar works consisting of acrylic painted MDF of the same size. Based on a regular geometric pattern, the work is playing with proportion, repetition, symmetry, asymmetry as well as with rules and deviations. The work is creating a visual and spatial tension between figure/ground, solid material and detached air. Daniel Göttin is a Swiss artist whose work is divided between site-specific work and coloured or painted objects for walls. He lives and works in Basel. Göttin is working with common industrial material which can be paint, tape, wood, metal, polystyrene, plastic, carpet. The concept for an installation work depends on the site and its conditions. For his objects and paintings, he uses similar material. His interest and concept are to examine the subjective nature of perception, and playfully responds to the characteristics of an architectural site or space and activate the viewer’s relationship to it. In the series of works made of aluminum and painted MDF, due to their simplicity, the attention is directed to the space within the object, corresponding with the reflection of light and shadow. Thus creating a new quality of perception between concrete and abstract reality. His artistic background relates mainly to Minimal Art, Concrete Art, and Conceptual Art. Besides these art tendencies he works also with aspects of Dada/Merz, Constructivism and Arte Povera. For more than 25 years, Daniel Göttin has focused on making temporary and permanent site-specific installations and interventions, Art in Public Space, objects, paintings, drawings, collages and prints. Göttin has organized more than 60 solo exhibitions and projects since 1990 at museums, institutions, galleries, public and private collections as well as non-profits, throughout Europe, Japan, Australia, Mexico and the United States.

  • Linear momentum (Abstract painting)
    By Tracey Adams
    Located in London, GB
Linear momentum (Abstract painting) Pigmented beeswax, oil and Collage on wood panel. Unframed. This work was created and exhibited at the same time as the series (r) evolution, and was conceived using a similar process: many layers of encaustic are applied, then hand cut squares of Japanese paper which have been dipped in encaustic are mounted on the panel. Finally, each square is covered with clear encaustic medium, then painted with oil to create spatial depth. It was inspired by the artist’s ongoing interest in music and music theory. It is about pattern, rhythm, and intervals of notes as exemplified by the choice and placement of color. Adams has been intrigued by math and serial systems since her days of graduate school at New England Conservatory (Boston, Massachusetts) when John Cage was composer in residence at Harvard University. Tracey Adams is an American abstract painter and printmaker. Her artworks reflect a strong interest in musical patterns, rhythms, lyrical compositional elements and what she calls a sense of performance. She lives and works in Carmel, California. Work by Adams is part of the permanent collections of several museums, including the Bakersfield Art Museum, the Monterey Museum of Art, the Fresno Art Museum, the Tucson Art...
