About

With a faithful allegiance to geometry and its capacity to reveal profound truths, Debra Ramsay works with mathematical logic to generate or guide form in precise ways. In Hue(s)pace Ramsay become the conduit for the arrangement of shape and the placement of color, thus making time visible in her paintings.

Debra Ramsay gathers her quantitative visual information about changes in color through repetitive and serial systems. Once she develops the system for a specific project, what remains is a form of meditation. What we gain is a time-lapse record of color’s shifts as seasons and life cycles change.

Debra Ramsay is an abstract artist working in the disciplines of painting, drawing and installation. She maintains a full time studio practice in New York City. Ramsay was awarded a 2016 residency at the Albers Foundation, a 2013 residency at the Golden Foundation in New Berlin, NY and in 2012 a fellowship at BAU Institute in Otranto, Italy.

Ramsay’s 2016 exhibitions include two solo exhibitions at ODETTA, Brooklyn, and 57W 57th Arts Project Space, NY and a small group exhibition at Project:ARTspace, NY.

In 2015 Ramsay had a two-person show at TSA NY Gallery in Brooklyn and a group exhibition at Pentimenti Gallery in Philadelphia, PA. Her 2014 exhibitions included Hansel and Gretel Picture Garden Pocket Utopia in Chelsea, NYC and The Visual Arts Center of NJ, Summit, NJ.
