About the Item
"Antisense" by Denise Driscoll is an 18 x 18 x 1.5 inch acrylic abstract painting composed of a continuous line of red, black, white and gold dots against an earthy green background. The dots are a color-coded ATCG sequence from the Human Genome Project and the title refers to the nomenclature that designates one side of DNA's double helix. "Sense" is the nomenclature used to describe the opposite half of the double-helix and a partner painting with that title is also available. The dots of paint that form the line are raised, have been covered with layers of sage green, and unearthed by careful sanding, creating a surface with a worn, distressed texture that might be ancient or excavated. This painting has a glossy topcoat, the sides are unfinished birch and the signature is on the reverse.
Denise Driscoll is a Massachusetts-based contemporary painter exploring themes of interconnection and inner experience. Her work has been shown throughout New England and is collected nationally. Driscoll is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
