It is framed without glass in a natural wood frame measuring 27 by 34 inches. The artwork and mat are coated and varnished.
Eilis Crean is inspired by the works of Honoré-Victorin Daumier, Evie Hone, Patrick Pye, Milton Avery, William Kentridge, Joan Snyder, Jennifer Bartlett, Judy Pfaff and Sarah Sze.
Atlanta-based Artist, Eilis Crean’s latest body of work, “Dream Abstractions,” reimages commonplace encounters. Thinking of her artwork as theater sets, she makes variations from core scenes that are recomposed, using referenced abstracted shapes as morphable & moveable props. Color & tone are used as a stage lighting director might, to vary mood & imply time.
This process of reduction, a paring away of original details, editing by elimination, becomes an analogy for a type of conscious dream state in which the sense of sight is isolated - disassociated from memory & anticipation.
Eilis holds an MFA from Georgia State University & a Certificate in Teaching & a Fine Art diploma from the National College of Art & Design, Dublin, Ireland. Her work is held in public and private collections including the Irish State Collection, Latvian State Collection, French State Collection, LaGrange Art Museum & King & Spalding.
