Celadon Sea
Celadon Sea is part of C. Ellen Hart’s Reflection Series. The works feature reflections found on the surfaces of water and glass. She seeks out images that commonly surround us in our daily lives, but that we rarely stop to notice. These images are fleeting and her intent is to capture a distinct moment in time.
C. Ellen Hart makes drawings, paintings and mixed media works with collage elements. Educated at the University of Houston with a BFA in painting (1985), Hart was awarded a Blaffer Scholarship. She has lived and worked in the Midwest, the Mid-Atlantic, and Texas. Hart has exhibited in California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Virginia, Texas, and Washington DC. In Virginia she was elected Resident Artist at the Arlington Arts Center and a Fellow of the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Back in her home state of Texas she was awarded an Established Artist Grant for her Downtown and Bayou Reflections project. Her works are included in numerous public and private collections.

Statement My paintings investigate the ubiquitous patterns of light, shadow and reflection that we all experience daily, but that we rarely stop to notice. The works reflect a perceptual duality: a tangible, distinct moment and place when the source pattern is found, intertwined with the fleeting and ephemeral nature of time. As light and atmospheric conditions shift, my source patterns morph, move and change. I am challenged to capture this relationship between the perceived and the barely sensed: the concrete world influenced by the inevitable transformation of time and spirit.
