2018

About the Item

Layered shapes in turquoise, yellow, periwinkle, rust and and black are brushed, stenciled, sprayed and curated into a playful narrative by Fiona Ackerman. The bold acrylic composition is an exploration of color, texture and pattern. Since completing her BFA through Concordia and the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Fiona Ackerman has exhibited across Canada and in Germany and France. She received an honorable mention in the Kingston Prize for Canadian Portraiture in 2009 and in 2015 she was long listed for the prestigious Sobey Prize. In 2012, Ackerman spent six months working in Berlin. The Berlin paintings, and the work produced for the exhibition titled 'Heterotopia' at Winsor Gallery were published in a catalogue available through Winsor Gallery and Galerie Steinrötter. Recent projects include a commissioned video projection for the Facade Festival installed at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Ackerman's work is held in private and corporate collections including the Richard Ivey School of Business and Global Affairs Canada.

  • Proposition (Set of Four) - large, colourful, abstract, acrylic on canvas
    By Milly Ristvedt
    Located in Bloomfield, ON
Milly Ristvedt is making a bold proposition in this dramatic series of four large paintings designed to be displayed together. Each of the four canvases offers a stunning visual dialogue in blocks of colour—reds, purples, orange, greens, blues, black and white for contrast. Ristvedt is known as a master colourist who uses colour to express thought and emotion. Art Critic Barry Lord (Art in America) declared that Ristvedt’s paintings were ‘more insistent than Bush, more consciously structured than Molinari.’ “They are meant to be ‘read’ together in the same viewing space. The conversations between them are intense.” Milly Ristvedt Born in British Columbia, Ristvedt studied at the Vancouver School of Art (now the Emily Carr University) and had her first solo exhibit at the Carmen Lamanna Gallery in Toronto. In the late 1960s, Ristvedt shared a studio with famed Canadian painter Jack Bush, met art critic Clement Greenberg and was inspired by American painters Jules Olitiski...

  • Santa Ana - acrylic on canvas

Nina is an artist, ceramist and colorist with 20 years of professional experience and a lifetime of art appreciation. Originally from Virginia and having traveled and lived extensively worldwide she now resides as a full-time artist and ceramist in Los Angeles. With a degree in psychology and training in ceramics, painting was a natural transition and expansion to her repertoire from an early age. With color and form as her guide, her artwork flows from spontaneous and spiritual inspiration. Influenced by her travels with the play of color and light, her paintings reflect nature, spirit and a place of tranquility. There’s a touch of magic, secrets and a touch of the unknown in every painting, when painting ”time stops and almost an altered state of consciousness overtakes as the painting evolves”. Nina’s artwork has been shown in California, New York, Berlin, Montreal, Texas and Tokyo Japan. Santa Ana...
