About the Item
Jennifer J L Jones was born in Virginia U.S.A. in 1971 and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois in 1994.
Her mixed media paintings are meditations on nature, both as corporeal reality and intangible spirituality. Working intuitively, she explores this dichotomy in large-scale gestural paintings which use naturally occurring patterns to investigate the emotional content associated with the natural world: flowers, sea shells, cloud formations, the grace of a falling leaf, a glass-topped lake or the form and scale of a mountain range. An expression not only of what is seen, but also felt, Jones’ paintings aim to capture a sense of change, time, and growth, phenomena which she considers to constitute the essence of life.

- Children of the World (Midnight Collection 1)Located in Southampton, NYAs an immigrant from El Salvador Oscar Molina explored his feelings of being “other” and finding ways to belong in a new land without completely subjugating one’s own native identity. This is the challenge that Oscar faces head on in his work. His “Children of the World” series is a deep expression of his desire to eradicate this feeling of otherness – to exist in a world without judgment. The series stirs feelings of connection as they are compositions of groups of figures – these figures must stay close to one another, must protect one another from the unknown just as strangers in a strange land...Category

- Over Isfahan by Fred MartinBy Fred MartinLocated in Hudson, NYIn the summer of 1970, I had been using acrylic for four years and had yet to find a way to develop color like a composer might orchestrate a symphony from a piano score. (The symphonic was then my visual ideal.) After the 106th acrylic of “majestic” size, I got real about scale—smaller—and switched to colored sticks of soft pastel so I could hold a rainbow in my hand. I kept on with the streaming lines of the big acrylic paintings, but I filled the spaces between with the soft pastels. –Fred Martin...Category
