Day's work has been exhibited throughout the United States including the Crocker Museum, Center for Contemporary Arts Santa Fe, Tucson Museum of Art, Davis Dominguez Gallery, Woodbury Art Museum, Zhou B. Art Center in Chicago, and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She has attended artist residences at the Ucross Foundation, Wyoming, Jentel, Wyoming, and Playa, Oregon. Jenny Day was recently selected as Artist in Residence at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, Florida and at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Art Center in Nebraska City, Nebraska.
statement:
"I seek to reconcile a romantic notion of landscape with the way that space is unavoidably fragmented and eroded through conceptualization and use. Transitional localities are depicted through stratified landscape; the viewer is simultaneously confronted and enveloped by abstraction. With a background in Environmental Studies, my paintings discuss how the fractured landscape, once altered, reconstructs itself. Influenced by resource extraction, architecture, and a need to document human effect on nature, the work investigates the construction of a relationship to land, the built environment, dystopia and utopia. My most recent body of work uses satellite images from United States Superfund Sites combined with photographs shot while driving along major freeways from Los Angeles, California to Santa Fe, New Mexico. The end result depicts a landscape mediated by multiple layers of technology, a fragmented space; the work examines human demand and the effects of environmental degradation on an understanding of place."

I watched the desert blur by as I drove eighty-miles per hour on I-40. I couldn’t hear the bees. The Mohave backdropped a science-fiction film I watched from my couch...Category

- Gold CatBy Jenny DayLocated in New Orleans, LA"Lone Star, True But Whatever There was I time when I ached for the world. Before cell phones, before social media, I felt the urgency of environmental damage, of social injustice. Nothing seems to have gotten better. I'm not numb to it, but in some way I've become flip, a resigned humor like a layer of scar tissue between my concerns and the abrasion all around. Still, I was surprised how playful these paintings became. Disasters intertwine: Urns, much like the one that held my twin sister's ashes, a familial disaster, come to the forefront, variations of childhood memory. Images from photos I took in Port Aransas...Category
