Joey Korom
Poles, Abstract Painting

2021

About the Item

Artist Comments
Artist Joey Korom presents a modern abstract in expressive gray colors, handled with verve and skill. "Subtlety is the watchword of the composition," states Joey. Vertical beams hide in plain sight celebrating an artistic dichotomy. The four poles emerge from a drawn rectangle which aggregates and establishes the entire work. Joey paints the frame a metallic black with a matte finish as a cutting-edge innovation.

About the Artist
Joey Korom is an abstract expressionist painter who has been a practicing artist for 50 years. He experiments with media, colors, and textures to produce artwork that is “purely optical;” that is, artwork meant to engage the viewer, visually and emotionally, without employing any associations outside of the work itself. Joey is passionate about this expressive type of abstraction, an artistic mode that escapes the rules of perspective and realism. His educational and professional background is in architecture, which he considers to be “the father of all arts.” The use of line, shape, and proportion in Joey’s work is visibly influenced by his experience as an architect, but he seeks to avoid the rigidity involved in architectural draftsmanship. He focuses instead on underlying structure, seductive color, and loose brushwork. The artist sees his style as a personal liberation from the demands of architectural drawing, and yet, he’s never lost the disciplines he was taught.

  • Oyster Bay, Abstract Painting
    By Alicia Dunn
    Located in San Francisco, CA

    Artist Comments
Artist Alicia Dunn displays a dreamy seascape of the Northern California coast. The essence of serenity emanates in the relaxed panorama. Alicia captures the chill in the crisp sea air. Relaxing hues of blue flow along the canvas in soft and velvety brushwork.

    About the Artist
Alicia Dunn’s abstract paintings are affected by a confluence of elements: the weather, her mood, and the properties of her materials. “Ceding control to these things allows the magic to happen,” the artist explains. Alicia's paintings capture the unique energy of nature, particularly that of the beach where she lives. Staring into the tranquil and luminous colors of her work, the viewer connects to shape of the waves, the swiftness of the wind, and the beginning of a day. Alicia is inspired by the simple things in life. Her awe of nature’s perfection and the thrill of constant discovery are conveyed in her art. Alicia works in water-based acrylic paint, and has developed a technique using blending gels to achieve not only rich color and texture, but also an eroded, weathered effect that reflects the process of the painting’s creation. Like nature itself, each painting shifts with the viewer, chronicling time through movement and beauty.

  • Urban Abstraction (ripped off posters) Italian Expressionist Painting on Canvas
    By Andrea Spinelli
    Located in Firenze, IT
The present work of art titled "Urban Abstraction (ripped off posters)" is part of a series of paintings that the artist composed in the 1980s and 1990s inspired by the observation of the urban reality of those years. The artist take the cue from his walks in Florence, both in the center and in the suburbs, and by the observation of billboards and posters scattered throughout the city. The mass of information, colors, messages and words were carried on the canvas with acrylic colors, ideally reconstructing the tears and overlaps of all the information and advertising contained on these huge sheets of paper that invade our cities. The geometric lines are overlaid with jagged lines, overlaps and color dripping and also the choice in the color palette, with different shades of white, gray, rose, orange red and blue helps in rendering the result of the tears and ripped paper. The result is a beautiful multicolored modern abstract canvas, both aesthetically and ethically, with many rich layers of color, texture and expression in which the artist leaves his own message. The painting is housed in a simple modern white lacquer wood frame. Andrea Spinelli...
